Sea products are rich in minerals like magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc, all of which are known for their deeply cleansing and antibiotic properties. When we think of the sea, we think of health, invigoration, the feeling of being alive and yet peacefully calm.” Traditional water has always been at the heart of people. The bird place of life. Rejuvenating, ability to cure and cleansing, part of many rituals and play a major role in many religions. In the ancient Greek symbolised by the image of Aphrodite rising out of the sea, she was so beautiful because of the nutrients that the sea plants had given her. Cleopatra,  a symbol for the Romans in these day’s.
Rome has always been the water city. During this period more than 150 million gallons of water were used daily. Cleopatra had a house/ Palace at the seafront and an unusually great knowledge about seaweed/applications. The basics of the bath and preparation have not really changed much. Seaweed, seaweed extracts and other substances derived from the sea, e.g. Dead Sea mud, and Maërl, are used because the people believed that they contained vital elements which will act in harmony with the human body, helping to achieve health, beauty, relaxation and wellness.

Normally, the preparations of seaweeds were used to ‘draw’ boils (Cooking) by simmering slowly, but avoid boiling. The nutrients dissolve in the watery environment to be added to the bath. There are important differences between land plants and seaweed.

Whereas land plants require a rigid structure capable of withstanding the constant pull of gravity, marine plants must have a more flexible structure to accommodate the varying stresses of currents and wave motion. They have adapted accordingly by developing gelatinous structural materials having the necessary flexibility.  Algae have unlike there earthly cousins no roots, leaves, seeds, flowers or vascular systems. They nourish themselves through osmosis attracting gases and nutrients dissolved in the watery environment that is their home. Because of the lack of a vascular system the minerals/nutrients in seaweeds are in colloidal form, meaning they retain their molecular identity while remaining in liquid suspension. This is necessary to be able to transport and store these nutrients within the seaweed. Not only have the nutrients to be able to pass between the different cells but also through the cell wall itself. These colloids are not only very small in size but are easily absorbed by other body’s cells.

When you add these nutrients to your bath they can pass through your skin and enter the tissue under need the skin, helping to increase the (micro) circulation. Beneficial effects on cellular repair, cellular growth and regeneration which have let many to believe that seaweed can lessen the signs of ageing.

Scientific research also indicates that seaweed’s ability to increase micro circulation and the metabolism promotes detoxification and enhances slimming and weight loss; improve vitality and to maintain a youthful appearance.

“Minerals that are attached to other substances such as amino acids are also more bio available. These are called chelated (key-lated) minerals, from the Greek word for claw. They are electrical charged due to the mineral present.

The electrolytic magnetic action of the sea plants releases excess body fluids from congested cells and dissolves fatty wastes through the skin, replacing them with depleted minerals, particularly potassium and iodine.

However these chelated substances are much bigger in size than the colloidal types. Can not pass through the skin but will attach them to it. As result of the negatively charged minerals which are bio-active, help the skin too detoxifying and form a kind of protective coating/shield afterwards. The gelatinous materials will help to add lustre and shine to your skin, hair and nails. No wonder seaweed is being used for several thousand years by now.

Other will fill muslin bags, large tea infusion balls, or old stockings with dried seaweed. Another option: wrap the seaweed in linen, cheese cloth before use.(The bags are needed to keep the seaweed from going down the drain of your bath.

Relaxing your body will help the cleaning and rejuvenation process:

Try to control the environment/ avoid disturbances, choose the time/moment carefully. Not only cleansing and relaxing but make it revitalising and rejuvenating as well. It is very important to create the right environment at home. Use something that appeals to every sense you have. Good music, scent (Aromatherapy oils like lavender), light candles that produce the wanted scents or  flowering plants (such as plumeria or citrus).

Massage: Softly rub your body using a sponge, massage it into your skin using long strokes towards the heart, starting with your feet, ‘It’s excellent for soothing itchy and dry skin and helps detoxify by pulling out toxic waste from the pores. Some claim that seaweed can reduce/absorb toxins by up to 50 percent of its dry weight.

Working/walking is a stressful activity and cause of tear, stress and ware. You have to use your muscles just to be able to stand/walk.. (Gravity) We humans do walking straight what makes it even worse. When you prepare you bath take enough water to immerse the whole body like the seaweed can float. The pull of gravity temporally interrupted. It will help you to relax. A way to measure the relaxation is to watch your hand. If you tend to form a fist you have to relax a little bit more. ‘It’s a great way to de-stress after a long day at work.

Rinse off with warm water after you finish your bath.

But most important: make the Sea or Ocean experience a regular part of your routine, you reap a bounty of beauty and health benefits, you need it. It takes just 20 minutes. Caution: Those with high blood pressure or other health problems should consult their doctors before having a hot seaweed bath.

All the sea’s mineral substances are concentrated I seaweed cells/wall.

Similar to a tiny chemical manufacturing plant, they also manufacture different proteins and vitamins. Each variety of seaweed possesses its own individual cocktail  of elements, so it is essential to choose the appropriate seaweed for the required function.
